Michigan Wolverines vs. Wisconsin Badgers Football Preview

Michigan State merchandiseThe season is quickly coming to an end as the Michigan Wolverines have their final home game of the season against the #5 Wisconsin Badgers. The Badgers are trying to move closer to securing a Big Ten Title and the Wolverines are in the hunt for a quality win that will boost their résumé for bowl season. Ann Arbor will be hostile this Saturday due to Rich Rodriguez’s first season as the Wolverines coach and Michigan is yearning for a big time win on Senior Day. Spoiling another Big Ten team’s hopes of a BCS championship game birth is strong motivation. But, the momentum that Michigan’s football team would gain after defeating the Badgers might push them full steam ahead to beat their rivals in Columbus, Ohio State. This is the second biggest game of the season for the Wolverines, and they want to make their presence felt.

The #5 Wisconsin Badgers have just one loss to those pesky Spartans from East Lansing, and look to continue their efficient and winning ways. Quarterback Scott Tolzien manages a methodical offense that rarely turns the ball over, is extremely disciplined, and the best red zone scoring team in the nation. Yet, Wisconsin will be without their star running back John Clay who has 929 yards rushing and is an absolute workhorse on the gridiron. The Badgers also have two other running backs with over 500 yards rushing in James White and Montee Ball. Both of these running backs can pound the football and break tackles for the big play, so Michigan stills needs to prepare to stop a powerful rushing attack. As always, the Wolverines needs to contain the passing attack and Tolzien’s aerial assault will be a difficult challenge for the young Michigan defense.

Michigan continues to boast their stellar offense that racks up the yardage and puts up points. If Michigan plans to beat the Badgers, they need to prevent turnovers. With 10 turnovers in the last two weeks, Michigan needs to gain control of their fate and keep possession of the football. Denard Robinson will be the key to this. Robinson must hold that football high and tight when running and make smart and accurate throws. The Badgers have a solid run defense, but the Wolverines have the ninth best rushing offense in the nation, so the running game will be a battle. Denard Robinson will also need to effectively pass the football and he will most likely be looking for his favorite wide receiver Roy Roundtree. If Michigan can run effectively, pass efficiently, and stop the Badger offense from ripping apart the Wolverines defense, then Michigan does in fact have a chance to win this game.

Michigan will want this game for its seniors. While Michigan does not have very many starting seniors, the players will want to send the few they have out of the Big House with a victory and their heads held high. Michigan will not be a push over for the highly ranked Badgers and should not be taken lightly. The Wolverines will play a tough game, but the Badgers pack too big of a punch and are too well coached and methodical for the Wolverines to slow down.

Prediction: Wisconsin Badgers 38, Michigan Wolverines 31
